That was it, life as I knew it was over, and I had a choice to make. I could either let my circumstances take away my joy and happiness from that point on, or I could choose to be positive and strong, refusing to sink under the heavy weight of negativity. We have all been there, and all have made that choice. It may have truly been the most important decision you ever faced, or just a hiccup in the road. Either way the choice is the same. Your “life-ender” could have been divorce after years of a wonderful, loving marriage. It could have been the heartache of loosing someone you love and having to say goodbye. It could have been the devastation of loosing a job or a house. Or it could have just been the overwhelming stress of our day to day lives. Maybe afterwards you spent some time in a puddle of tears and anger, and maybe you are still sitting there loosing sight of ever getting up. Your fears may make the future seem to far, and the unknown can fill you with worry for every little thing. With each passing day, you can feel the toxic nature of negativity, hopelessness, fear, and hate seep deeper and deeper into your heart. You can feel as if you are stuck in chains, slowly being pulled down by the weight of your thoughts, but at the same time desperately wanting to be free and happy again. In doing so you begin to assume that the future will always be dark just because the present is difficult. Without realizing it, your attitude affects the attitudes of those around you, and it will either effect them positively or negatively. Put your hope and trust in God, trust that He is able to heal your broken heart and broken relationships, and no matter what, you can have peace and joy if you ask Him to help you with your thoughts. Realize that you don’t need to spend the rest of your life being bitter and negative and stuck in anger or sorrow, in hard circumstances that inevitably lie ahead, or the small struggles and frustrations of everyday life. When you are stuck with your negative or bitter “blinders” on her heart, you tend to overlook the blessings God places in your life. The One who holds all hope, can take away the burdens on your heart when you surrender all your negativity to Him and commit to trusting God through the storms. Optimism and positive thinking are still within your reach, because you have the power within you, through Christ, to choose to be positive, despite your circumstances. You merely have to make an intentional effort to do so, and when you do, your whole perspective and outlook will completely change. Your circumstances will stay the same, but your thoughts and my heart will not.
