GOD ’s shoulders— he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin. But you, God, will throw the others into a muddy bog, Cut the lifespan of assassins and traitors in half. And I trust in you.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭55:22-23‬ ‭

What are burdens? A burden is a load, mostly a heavy one. They are not accidents, they didn’t just appear out of nowhere, they are meant for you for a reason. The burdens you have in your life are ones that God has chosen for you, to help you grow and to strengthen your faith. They teach us how to trust God and to live one day at a time with Him. However, if they are the result of your own rebellious sin against Him, they will only drag you farther away. This promise also tells us that we can cast these burdens on the Lord. Peter said, "Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you" (I Pet. 5:7). Now the Lord has a funny way of doing things, He gives us the burden, and then He says, "Now give that burden back to Me.” However, it doesn’t stop there, He also says, “Give Me yourself as well." If we try to give Him our burdens without giving Him ourselves, He really can't help us. Doing this is like stepping onto an elevator at ground level with a bunch of heavy packages in your arms and holding them until you reach your destination on the 12th floor. The logical thing would have been to put the packages down on the floor of the elevator for the duration of the ride, but our human nature is to be stubborn and to do things our way. Let the elevator do the work and carry both you and your packages to your final destination. Notice that the verse doesn't say, “He'll keep you from problems all the time”, He's going to use problems and burdens to build your character and test your faith. Don’t be dismayed by this fact, He will make sure the righteous you receive through these burdens will not be removed from you.Giving your burden to God is an act of good faith, but giving yourself to Him and letting Him use that burden to help you grow is taking an extra step of faith. He will invest that burden in you, to build your character and to strengthen your faith. Give your burdens to the Lord today and let Him sustain you.
